Weds Feb 6th - After sleeping in a bit (arrived in Quito after midnight) we had a croissant and some bun thing for breakfast at Cafe Endulce ($1). The city is full of beautiful plazas and cobbled streets (many are pedestrian only which we appreciate). We see poverty and lots of cars in places too.
We visited Inglesia de la Compana (church of the bells) a extravagant cathedral built in 1600's that had 7 tons of gold used inside of it. Very ornate (no fotos allowed).
For lunch we ordered a few traditional Ecuadorian dishes: Fritata Pork and shrimp in coconut sauce (this style of cooking is called encocada). Dave choked down a really really strong espresso too.
We plan to join a free walking tour of Old Town after lunch.
