Woke up and enjoyed one last breakfast mini-buffet in our Istanbul guesthouse/hotel. BTW if anyone is ever looking for a place to stay in IST we recommend this place.
Then most of the group hit the underground cistern while Amy visited Hagia Eirene. It's the first cathedral in Istanbul/Constantinople; built in 360 AD; OLDER than Hagia Sophia. Hagia means 'holy' and Eirene means 'peace'. The Ottomans used it as an armory during their reign.
Took a Turkish Airlines flight to Neveshir airport in the Cappodocia region. It's hard to describe this landscape. We've only seen a few of the caves and fairy chimneys from our hotel. Tomorrow we take a sunrise hot air balloon ride. And a guided tour of some of the more interesting areas...so I'll be sure to have some spectacular pictures. We can't wait!!
For dinner some of had these interesting stew-like dish that is prepared in a clay pot which is busted open to get the yummy food inside.
And Oh!!! Did I mention our hotel is in a CAVE!!!????
P.S. Yes, we kept getting that They Might Be Giants song in our heads too (...now it's Istanbul now it's Constantinople now it's Istanbul...)
Just caught up with you on your amazing adventure. Our kids have been here and we've been busy so just read all your posts. What fun. Makes me lonesome for Turkey!!!
